Art Specialist Deborah Sailors
Welcome to Art! The art room at Brookwood is a place for creativity and exploration. The disciplined based art curriculum emphasizes the elements and principles of design. The program follows the Georgia Standards of Excellence for the visual arts. All grades have art class on a four day rotation throughout the year. Students are challenged to use problem solving skills to create final products that reflect the particular art techniques and concepts presented. Each grade level builds on the knowledge learned the previous year.
All students participate in an annual art show. This is a great experience for the children. Student artwork is always visible in the hallways of the school and is displayed throughout the community as well. Students are taught that what they learn through their art is important and should be displayed with pride.
I am thrilled to be here at Brookwood as your child’s art teacher! I love giving students problems to solve in art and watching as they use creative ways to find solutions. They always amaze me!
I grew up in Columbia County schools so it is very special to teach here now. I have been happily married for twenty-one years and have two wonderful children. I love serving my family. My degree is from Augusta College and my Master’s is from the University of South Carolina. I am in my fifteenth year teaching and my tenth year here at Brookwood. Your children are a joy to me in the art room!
